My style of therapy is warm, active, respectful and egalitarian. Human-to-human, adult-to-adult. And you may be surprised to hear that my consulting room frequently echoes with the sound of laughter.
In my practice, I draw predominantly on existential therapies, relational psychotherapy, elements of Transactional Analyses, Buddhist psychology and Jungian ideas. I believe passionately that periods of acute emotional pain, in which we feel ‘’lost’’ and without ground, if approached with compassion, curiosity - and an openness to the possibility that your pain may have something important to say, can ultimately be a catalyst for positive transformation. |
When you come out of the storm you won't be the same person that walked in. That's what the storm is about. ” Haruki Murakami
Together we will turn towards your pain and try to understand the root of your psychological distress, rather than to merely treat symptoms, in contrast to approaches such as CBT.
During therapy, our focus may move from the past to present, to traumatizing and defining life events and between light and painful emotions. Along the way, we may uncover and explore problematic behaviors and unhelpful or faulty beliefs – always from a position of compassion.
The hope is that in gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and what you really want out of life, you may make more life affirming choices, more aligned with your increasingly authentic self. You will better be able to identify the “right action” to take you closer to the life you want to be living, with more peace and an enhanced sense of meaning.
So, whether you are in the immediate storm of a crisis or plagued by an earlier trauma, together we can work towards a better understanding and decreasing the distress in your life. This is hard work. But I have accompanied many on this journey and I will be by your side every step of the way. Human-to-human, adult-to-adult.
That said, you don’t have to be grappling with challenging psychological states such as anxiety, depression, grief, addiction or relationship issues to benefit from counselling and psychotherapy. Our sessions offer opportunities to reflect on all of life’s experience including personal development and flourishing. Together we will identify your unique strengths as well as your core struggles.
